California Permanent Cannabis Regulations Delayed Public Viewing

Marijuana businesses across California have been waiting patiently for the Bureau of Cannabis Control to release the new permanent cannabis regulations, but it looks like they will be waiting a little longer. Before the regulations become official, the BCC submitted them to the Office of Administrative Law for a 30 business day review.

The BCC has confirmed that during the OAL review the permanent cannabis regulations will not be available for public viewing. Not only will California marijuana businesses be forced to wait longer to see the regulations, but once they are released they will be implemented the very same day.

This will allow for very little time for public viewing before the permanent cannabis regulations are set in stone. The California Cannabis Industry Association is taking action to assure cannabis businesses that there will be transparency before the regulations are enacted.

The CCIA submitted a public records request to the Office of Administrative Law yesterday in an effort to give cannabis professionals a chance to review the regulations.They are committed to working with the BCC, CDPH, and CDFA to find a way expedite the release of the proposed permanent cannabis regulations.

No Temporary Cannabis Licenses in 2019

In addition to the delays for public viewing, the Bureau of Cannabis Control also notified California cannabis businesses that December will be the last month they are accepting temporary license applications. The BCC announced that they will not be able to issue any temporary licenses after December 31st, 2018, however they must confirm with the local jurisdiction who have at max 10 days to respond.

To expedite the process the BCC has confirmed that their staff will be working on weekends but encourage any cannabis business applying for a temporary business license to do so as soon as possible. They readily admit that they have received a high volume of temporary applications in the past few weeks and cannot guarantee that they will all be approved before the end of the year.
