Virginia Senate agreed to sell recreational marijuana from the beginning of September
The Virginia Senate approved the bill in September. However, the bill’s fate is yet unknown due to then Republican-domination of House of Delegates
Virginia’s upper chamber of parliament approved the measure by a vote of 23 to 16.
If the bill is passed and signed into law, the adult-use cannabis sector might begin sooner.
Sales were expected to begin in January 2024.
They want to amend the adult-use law that The government passed last year while Democrats controlled both the legislature and the governor’s office. Still, they want to do so in various ways, according to the Republicans side.
On September 15, those medical marijuana establishments in Virginia that have been granted a license to sell recreational marijuana will be able to do so.
On the other hand, the measure would hold out the complete market introduction until 2024, which would be much later than that.
To obtain the same privileges, hemp growers would have to pay the state a one-time cost of $500,000, while pharmaceutical corporations would have to pay a price of $6 million.
Legislators agreed to legalize marijuana in 2021. However, if they are unable to get an agreement on a single bill for industry regulations, the market may not open until a later date.
