Cannabis Cafes Coming Soon to Sacramento
The Sacramento City Council has voted to allow cannabis lounges and cafes, with Mayor Kevin McCarty casting the deciding vote in favor. These venues, expected to open in 2026, will require special permits and advanced ventilation systems to operate.
Supporters say the move provides a safe, legal place for people to consume cannabis without using public spaces. Local dispensary owners are already preparing to expand into this new market, seeing it as a major opportunity for both businesses and residents, especially those who live in apartments or rentals where smoking isn’t allowed.
The change follows a state law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom that went into effect earlier this year. The law permits licensed lounges to serve food and drinks and host live entertainment, bringing cannabis cafes closer to the model already seen in some other parts of the world.
